Club Champion got its start as EJL Custom Golf in 1995 in the basement of company founder Everett Lockenvitz's home. Everett was joined five years later by Nick Sherburne, and together they opened first, a small location in Willowbrook, IL, and later, today's current larger store. After years of growth in the western suburbs, a satellite location at Cantigny GC in Wheaton, IL was opened in 2008, and in September 2009, the first North Shore location was started in Northfield, IL by acquiring Performance Fit Golf, founded by Dennis Piant.

In early 2010, EJL took in a significant capital investment along with additional experienced management resources from Highland Park, IL based Versatile Sports Partners ("VSP"). On May 1, 2010, the company was renamed and rebranded as Club Champion. VSP principals intend to grow Club Champion into a major national force in the custom club fitting business.
